The Walk a Mile Film Project
***Admission by freewill offering.***
King’s Theatre is pleased to present The Walk-A-Mile Film Project, a series of 5 short documentary films about the reality of the life and history of Indigenous peoples in Canada. Award winning film maker Michelle Derosier’s films address subjects such as treaties, racism, violence against women, and the way forward.
Film Producer John Hannam from Thunder Bay will be in attendance, and will be joined by Respected Elder Wanda Finnigan from L’sitkuk First Nation Mi’kmaq community for a discussion following the film.
Here are the titles:
- COMING TO TERMS
- WE ARE ALL TREATY PEOPLE
- A LEGACY OF STRUGGLE
- TARGETS & HEROES
- THE WAY FORWARD
The project was a collaboration between the City of Thunder Bay and Thunderstone Pictures to bring discussions on diversity and relationship-building into sharper focus. The film aims to encourage all community members, no matter where they come from, to fully understand historical Aboriginal and community issues in their current context so that we can have discussions that are both informed as well as welcoming and respectful.
