ROBBIE BURNS NIGHT SCOTCH N HAGGIS
Jan 25 @ 6:00 pm
Tickets are limited so be sure to get yours in advance!!
ou can expect bagpipes, expert scotch-tasting, themed delicacies, odes with a twist, and much more.
Bagpipes with Kim Gunn & David Kirk.
Founder’s House Head Chef Chris Pyne will offer:
  • Cheese and Charcuterie Board: House-made meats, pickles, crackers, and croustini with some great local cheeses.
  • House-made Haggis: Mashed potatoes, turnip (Neeps & Tatties), carrots with a whisky onion gravy.
  • Bread Pudding with toffee sauce.
Whisky Sommelier Leslee Fredricks of the NSLC will lead a sampling of some of the finest scotches you’ll find. She offers a short blurb on two of the single malts we will be tasting:
  • Tamdhu 10 YO – This is a Speyside Malt that possesses more colour than you would expect from a 10 year old single malt. (The age statement reflects the youngest whiskey in the bottle, so there may be some older whisky in the blend). The malt was aged 10 years exclusively in Sherry casks, so expect some significant fruit and woodiness. The nose is complex and the palate is wonderfully sweet and smooth.
  • Craigellachie 13 YO – Another Speyside Malt, Craigellachie is considered a traditionally made Single Malt using traditional equipment, producing a whisky that is a bit of a departure from a typical Speyside Malt. Craigellachie is viscous and complex with explosive fruit and a hint of smoke. Very few single malt expressions have been released by this distillery, so get ready for a real treat.

The event will take place at the NEW EVENT SPACE at Fort View Golf Course. Tickets are available through King’s Theatre.

TICKETS are $60 each (or $30 without the scotch-tasting)

ROLSTON STRING QUARTET
Jan 27 @ 2:00 pm

“Electrifying…”

“Highly engaging & superb musicianship”

Fresh from their debut at Carnegie Hall, they were just featured on WQXR.
First Prize winner of the 12th Banff International String Quartet Competition, the Rolston String Quartet is storming onto the international classical music scene. As the Calgary Herald notes, the ensemble “chimed the most resonantly with the ideals of perfect quartet playing.” Having formed in 2013, they were the only ensemble to be featured on CBC’s 2016 list of hot Canadian classical musicians under 30. The quartet also won First Prize at the 31st Chamber Music Yellow Springs Competition, Third Prize at the inaugural M-Prize Competition, and the Durosoir Prize at the 2016 Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition. Their Performances have taken them throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe and they currently serve as Graduate Quartet-in-Residence at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music.

The Rolston String Quartet – Luri Lee (violin), Hezekiah Leung (viola), Jonathan Lo (cello), and new member as of spring 2018 Emily Kruspe (violin) – was formed in the summer of 2013 at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity’s Chamber Music Residency. They take their name from Canadian violinist Thomas Rolston, founder and long-time director of the Music and Sound Programs at the Banff Centre.

Luri Lee plays a Carlo Tononi violin, generously on loan from Shauna Rolston Shaw. Rolston String Quartet is endorsed by Jargar Strings of Denmark.

Shelley Marshall’s HOLD MOMMY’S CIGARETTE
Mar 10 @ 2:00 pm

This is a stunning story of an unfiltered life, written and performed by Shelley Marshall, directed by Linda Kash. It took 10 years for Hamilton-born Marshall to create the work, the worthwhile result of resilience, recovery, and reflection while exploring many the genres of performance; clown, stand-up, improv, buffoon, and play.

For the past five years, old Mommy’s Cigarette has been a sell-out success in theatres in Toronto and surrounding cities, receiving Gold in the category of “Best Theatre Production” in 2013, “Best New Discovery” by Now Magazine, and nominated “Best Female Stand Up” in Canada by the Canadian Comedy Awards. Marshall has hosted the popular, televised Hamilton Music Awards for the past four years. In light of the national acclaim she has garnered, what makes Hold Mommy’s Cigarette such a success to Shelley personally is the attention it has contributed in raising mental health awareness. “I knew creating works of art that expressed my experience, my truth, and my understanding, were what would bring a joyful purpose to my life. I feel I not only have an opportunity, but an obligation, to convey a message that can help people heal.” Quickly blazing an uncharted trail, this comedic icon won’t be slowing down any time soon.

Marshall, who has recently settled in Bear River, Nova Scotia, invites you to come to her show with an open mind and promises you’ll leave with a full heart.

ROYAL WOOD
Mar 17 @ 2:00 pm

Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, multiple JUNO-nominated artist Royal Wood is a musical gem. Since being proclaimed “Songwriter of the Year” by iTunes, Wood has continued to evolve and hone his musical craft – maintaining an unmistakable identity while uncovering and reinventing his sound.

About his new album ‘Something About You’: To capture the rawest possible sound, most of the songs on the album were recorded the day they were written, with Royal playing the majority of the instruments. As fate would have it, Royal recorded the album on the Beatles EMI console that made Abbey Road possible. “Every day I walked into the studio in London UK with the ghosts of my musical heroes sitting beside me,” said Royal. “All of my life I wanted to make music with the Beatles, and now I feel like I have,” he joked.

His soulful ballads and intimate banter never fail to sweep audiences off their feet. He is AMAZING, you won’t want to miss this show.
