On Saturday May 27, 2-5 pm, all are invited to at ARTsPLACE to share memories and stories about Maud Lewis. Bring paintings! Three films will be screened: ‘The Illuminated Life of Maud Lewis’ (featuring our own Ken Maher), the NFB short ‘World Without Shadows’, and CBC archival footage. Shannon Parker, Curator of Collections for the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, will be on hand to share insights about the gallery’s Maud Lewis House. Hosted by Ern Dick.

2:00 – 3:00 showing of “The World of Shadows” (10 minutes); memories of meeting Maud Lewis and buying her paintings, introduction of paintings or memorabilia by Maud Lewis or inspired by Maud Lewis

4:20 – 5:00 recounting our evolving understanding of Maud Lewis, including Ken Maher playing Everett, a reading from Lance Woolaver’s “Heart on the Door” and our reactions to “Maudie” that some of us saw the night before.
The event is part of a Maud Lewis Weekend which includes the King’s Film Society screening of MAUDIE on Friday May 26 at 7:00pm, Saturday May 27 at 7:00pm, and Sunday May 28 at 2:00pm and again at 7:00pm at King’s Theatre. Note that the MAUDIE screening will be General Admission seating; doors open 45 minutes before the show. Tickets are $10 for adults, $9 with Film Buff card and $8 for Youth. All prices include HST.
