INCREDIBLES 2
Aug 17 @ 7:00 pm

While the Parr family has accepted its collective calling as superheroes, the fact remains that their special heroism is still illegal. After they are arrested after unsuccessfully trying to stop the Underminer, their future seems bleak. However, the wealthy Deavor siblings of Devtech offer new hope with a bold project to rehabilitate the public image and legal status of Supers, with Elastigirl being assigned on point to be the shining example. Now having agreed for now to stay at home to care of the kids, Mr. Incredible finds domestic life a daunting challenge, especially with baby Jack-Jack’s newly emerged powers making him almost impossible to manage. However, Elastigirl soon has her own concerns dealing with the menace of a new supervillain, Screenslaver, who is wreaking havoc with his mind control abilities. Now, Elastigirl must solve the mystery of this enemy, who has malevolent designs on the world with the Parr family and friends key targets of this evil. —Kenneth Chisholm (kchishol@rogers.com)

THE LEISURE SEEKER
Aug 21 @ 7:30 pm

The film stars Academy Award-winner Helen Mirren and two-time Golden Globe-winner Donald Sutherland as a runaway couple going on an unforgettable journey in the faithful old RV they call The Leisure Seeker, traveling from Boston to The Ernest Hemingway Home in Key West. They recapture their passion for life and their love for each other on a road trip that provides revelation and surprise right up to the very end.

“This first English-language film from the Italian director Paolo Virza is an impeccably acted, teary-funny comedy about an ageing couple coming to terms with the fact that their days of living independently are numbered.”

MAUDIE
Aug 31 @ 7:30 pm

Back by popular demand, MAUDIE-mania returns to King’s!

***Reserve seating available, call the Box Office at 902-5322-7704***

Maudie is based on the true story of Nova Scotia painter Maud Lewis, who overcame the physical challenge of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis to become one of Canada’s best known and most loved folk artists.

The fragile but determined Maudie (Sally Hawkins) yearns for independence from her over-protective family and dreams of creating art. When she answers an ad for a housekeeper placed by a reclusive fish seller (Ethan Hawke), she gains more than just the freedom she wanted, as the unlikely pair develops a relationship that is intensely intimate and just as challenging.

A touching and inspiring story about following one’s dreams in spite of life’s obstacles, Maudie is an absolute charmer.

Maudie breaks your heart with its infectious positivity.” – Tomris Laffly, Time Out

PUZZLE – Film Society Season Launch
Sep 4 @ 7:30 pm

Producer Marc Turtletaub (Loving; Little Miss Sunshine) makes his directorial debut with Puzzle, a gently humanist story of an unassuming housewife who comes to recognize her unspoken hopes and dreams through the unlikely avenue of competitive jigsaw-puzzling. Agnes (Kelly Macdonald, Goodbye Christopher Robin) lives a quiet, monotonous life waiting hand-and-foot on her husband, Louie (David Denman, Logan, Lucky), and her two adult sons. After an evening of birthday celebrations — she cleans, cooks, and prepares the house for what turns out to be her own party — she notices a gift that strikes her interest: a jigsaw puzzle of a world map. Finishing the puzzle in record time, Agnes soon finds herself answering a “partner wanted” advertisement from puzzle champion Robert (Lunchbox star Irrfan Khan). As Agnes learns more about her gift at assembling the increasingly difficult puzzles Robert challenges her with, she also begins to give voice to her long-dormant desires. An adaptation of the 2009 Berlin Film Festival breakout hit of the same name from Argentina, Puzzle provides a sweet-natured glimpse into the complex interiority of what appears to be an entirely unremarkable life. Macdonald delivers a striking performance as Agnes, hinting at a deep longing for expression hidden beneath a lifetime of restraint. Puzzle asks us to consider what we might discover about ourselves if we allow that first spark of curiosity to ignite passion, courage, and a little stubborn determination.

DAVID MYLES – Golf Tee-up Concert
Sep 7 @ 7:30 pm

We are excited to welcome the wonderful DAVID MYLES back to King’s Theatre to kick off the 10th Annual Tournament of King’s!

THANKS TO OUR OFFICIAL CONCERT SPONSOR JUST US

Nattily dressed in a suit and tie, wearing his trademark specs, he looks like Buddy Holly transposed to an after-hours supper club. But Myles’s music conveys a populist appeal that leaves no one lacking. – No Depression

Rock ’n’ roll’s diverse, electrifying roots dig deep into David Myles’ tenth album, Real Love. You can hear them in the old-school Johnny Cash shuffle and lightning-in-a-bottle twang of “Night And Day.” They pull you by the hand and dance slowly to the swingy drums and ‘50s-era, Roy Orbison croon of “Easy.” With the rousing orchestral thrill of “Night After Night,” they sprawl out into simmering soul as Myles seethes at a lover who’s been running around with another. Over Real Love’s 13 tracks, written as razor-sharp as Myles’ signature suits, those roots grow into a spectacular family tree of American musical tradition—with all its blood, sweat, and tears—that’s as endlessly entertaining as it is riveting.
